Jim Carrey unleashes BIZARRE red carpet rant
He's known for his outlandish comical displays in film and during hilarious TV appearances.
Yet, Jim Carrey, 55, took his quirky sense of humour a step beyond as he unleashed a bizarre rant during a weird red carpet interview with E! News' Catt Sadler at the Harper’s Bazaar’s ICONS bash over the weekend in New York.
Although the TV host was at first thrilled to chat with the Canadian comedian, the conversation took a strange turn almost immediately after she commented on how rare it is to see him at a glitzy soiree.
Replying to her remark, he began: 'There’s no meaning to any of this. I wanted to find the most meaningless thing I could come to and join and here I am.'
And while viewers may think the awkward encounter ends there, The Cable Guy star continued to hit a bum note as Catt attempted to get a positive answer from him.
She bravely questioned: 'They’re celebrating icons inside, do you believe in icons?'
'Boy, that is just the absolute lowest-aiming possibility that we could come up with,' he said. 'I don’t believe that you exist but there is a lovely fragrance in the air.'
While bursting into a James Brown impersonation, Catt - who looked down the camera in a panic - valiantly tried to give the interview one last try as she commented on his dashing display.
She shared: 'But Jim, you got really dressed up for the occasion, you look good.'
However, her compliments fell on deaf ears as Jim continued his philosophy lesson, insisting 'there is no me'.
'I didn’t get dressed up,' he responded. 'There is no me. There’s just things happening. (This is) not our world. We don’t matter.'
And with a encouraging squeeze of Catt shoulder, Jim was off and walked away leaving the season professional aghast.
Earlier this month, the actor sailed into Venice for the world premiere of his documentary Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond, which recounts the creative process he masterminded during production of 1999 Andy Kaufman biopic Man On The Moon.
The star received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the late entertainer, winning a prestigious Golden Globe. Arriving in Venice to promote the new film, he surprised fans by revealing a new clean-cut look after shaving off his notoriously bushy beard.
Back in May, the then-bearded star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live where he joked about his facial hair, saying: 'It's a bigger star than me. It has its own Twitter.'
The comedian then went even further during his late night TV show interview. With host Jimmy looking on, he joked: 'The question is not, "Why are you growing a beard?" The question is, "Why am I growing a beard and still shaving my b***s?"
Away from his work commitments, the Canadian-born star has been embroiled in a wrongful death lawsuit surrounding his ex Cathriona White, who took her own life on September 25, 2015.
A year later, her mother and estranged husband filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Hollywood actor.
